Extracorporeal Shockwave (ECSW)

Acoustic wave therapy for chronic tendinopathies and selected soft-tissue conditions.
Shockwave therapy applies acoustic pressure waves to a targeted area. It has a reasonable evidence base in several chronic tendinopathies, including plantar fasciopathy and lateral epicondylopathy.
Protocols usually run three to six sessions. Temporary soreness after treatment is common, and results are assessed on function rather than on sensation alone.
What to expect
- Best evidence in chronic tendinopathy
- Typically 3–6 sessions
- Post-treatment soreness is common
- Assessed on functional change
