Verify the license before anything else

Texas licensing is public. Confirm that the physician or nurse practitioner who will sign your plan holds an active license in Texas, and that the name on the license matches the person you actually speak with. A brand name on a website is not a clinician.

Ask who is supervising, not just who is injecting

In many settings the person administering an injection is not the person who decided you should receive it. Both matter. You should be able to name the clinician responsible for your plan and reach them with a question about it.

Red flags worth walking away from

None of these are illegal on their own. All of them should slow you down.

• No written plan, no monitoring schedule, and no stopping criteria

What kind of doctor prescribes peptides?

There is no single specialty. Prescribing clinicians commonly come from family medicine, internal medicine, physical medicine and rehabilitation, sports medicine, endocrinology, or anti-aging and longevity practice. The relevant question is whether the clinician is licensed, evaluates you individually, and monitors the plan.

Can a med spa prescribe peptide therapy?

A prescription must come from a licensed prescriber operating within their scope, regardless of the setting's branding. Ask who that prescriber is and how to reach them.

Is telehealth acceptable for this?

Telehealth is widely used and can be appropriate, but the same standards apply: an individual evaluation, a named licensed prescriber, monitoring, and a way to escalate a problem. Convenience is not a substitute for any of those.
